Laser Surgery

The development of several different lasers over the last 20 years has revolutionized the treatment of many skin conditions. What is a laser? A laser is a high-energy beam of light that can transmit its energy to tissue to treat various skin problems. Different lasers use different wavelengths (different colors) of light, which may be used in different situations.

Facial wrinkles, sun-damaged skin, lines around the eyes and mouth, and facial blemishes may be removed to create a smoother more youthful appearance. The Carbon dioxide and Erbium laser through proven technology has revolutionized removal of wrinkles, scarred and sun-damaged skin of the face. Superficial layers of the skin are vaporized taking with it years of sun-damaged skin, as healing occurs the skin is tighter, smoother and more evenly colored.

Lasers may also be used to treat vascular lesions such as Port Wine stains (blood vessel birthmarks), spider veins of the face and legs, tattoos, and pigmented lesions (brown spots). Some skin conditions require several treatments; others may require only one treatment.

Dr. Orten has published articles on the treatment of Port Wine Stains and Pigmented lesions with lasers and lectures around the county on the use of lasers in medicine.
